Although they are only two meets into the season, i5 ELITE athletes have shown that they are ready and able to impact the track!!!
21 new athletes joined the club and 59 athletes returned for the 2013 outdoor season. Under the direction of Coach Eric Allen and his dedicated staff of assistant coaches, the team has been practicing 3 days a week since March 25th. Coaches have focused on helping the athletes perfect fundamental skills as well as build core strength and endurance. Results can already be seen on the track as evidenced by strong performances in all age groups. Athletes are beginning to achieve their goals in many ways such as improving on a previous time, jumping a personal best, or earning a ribbon or medal.
We were very proud of the performance of all of our i5 Elite athletes at last week’s 4th Annual Tommie Smith Invitational, held at Spingarn High School in Washington DC. Tommie Smith was the first person in history to break the 20-second barrier in the 200-meter dash and won the 1968 Olympic Gold Medal in the 200 meters. Dr. Smith broke over 13 world records during his track and field career and he and presently still holds the world record for the 200 meter straightaway. Dr. Smith was actively involved for the entire meet; he engaged the crowd, took photos with the athletes, spoke of the importance of education, health, and athletics.
In the same spirit as Dr. Smith, i5 Elite continues to encourage and support the health and academic success of our athletes. Athletes and families had a fun time and lots of exercise at our Skate Zone Fundraiser on XXXX. Additionally, last week after practice, coaches and team moms recognized athletes who earned honor roll for the 3rd quarter.
It’s going to be a great season ahead – check out our meet schedule and come out and see our athletes give it their all!
1, 2,3,4,5…impact the track i5!!!
