i5 ELITE completed its inaugural football season with huge success. Both the 6th and 7th grade teams advanced to the GYFL (Grassroots Youth Football League) Championship game where they represented i5 with great honor. Although neither team was successful, that day could not put a damper on a spectacular season.
The 6th grade team, led by Coach Tanardo Sharps, went through the regular season undefeated, going 6-0 inter-league and 2-0 in outer-league play. The athletes were fierce competitors throughout the year. Coach Tanardo was selected to coach the FBU 6th Grade team squad for Team Maryland. We look forward to building on what was started in 2014 and finishing the job in 2015.
The 7th grade team also fought their way to the GYFL Championship game. They were able to fight through injury and lack of depth upfront to compete at a very high level and fall just short of the title to a well-coached Westlake squad 13-6. This will only create a strong desire to improve and get better for the coaches and the players in the off-season, in hopes of closing the deal in 2015.
i5 ELITE athletes were rewarded for their performances on and off the field with multiple selections to the FBU Team Maryland 6th and 7th grade teams that competed in the FBU National Championship Tournament. i5 ELITE also had athletes participate in the Maryland Crab Bowl for the 6th grade and 7th grade North and South Teams. i5 ELITE athletes were celebrated with an awards banquet similar to the ESPY’s. Our awards banquet is called ELITE’s and was held on December 6, 2014 at i5 CHURCH. This was a great event for the i5 ELITE athletes and families. We look forward to celebrating with everyone again in 2015, and this time we will display the championship trophies.
